WHAT is an EMDR Intensive/Extended Session?

An EMDR extended session (sometimes also called an intensive) is an opportunity to get more work done, in less time.

I am currently offering 3 hour extended sessions 1 to 2 times per week, depending on client’s needs and my availability. This will include 1 or 2 brief breaks, depending on the client’s needs.

Extended sessions require 1 or 2 Initial Intake and Assessment session billed separately at $175/hr. During that intake we will get to know each other, explore what you are needing, assess if extended sessions are a good option for you and make a plan for moving forward.

We may, or may not, get through the identified "target(s)" in the extended session(s). Our primary goal is to help you move towards healing faster, using more concentrated work. After we complete our time together, we will explore next steps. If additional EMDR is warranted, we will explore this option. Follow-up recommendations may include individual therapy, recommendations for group therapy and/or other supportive resources to assist you as you move forward in your healing journey.

This is a time for you to really focus on healing, it is beneficial to schedule low stress activities around your sessions such as taking time to yourself, taking a bath, yoga, hiking, or anything that feels supportive for you.

WHY an EMDR Intensive/Extended Session?

In the long run, concentrated work is more cost effective. In weekly therapy EMDR time is often shared with updates about the week and tending to other details. In an extended session, we will have more time to focus on processing the traumatic event(s) without interruptions. This makes the work more efficient and, in the end, requires less time in therapy and less cost overall.

You have been waiting and waiting to address something and now feel ready/motivated to work through it.

You are currently working with a talk therapist, and feel that concentrated trauma-focused work would be beneficial to help you move forward.

You’ve already spent a good amount of time in therapy and are feeling stuck, it doesn’t seem to be helping or else progress is going too slowly for you.

You want therapy, but ongoing weekly sessions sound more overwhelming than supportive.

You live in an area where EMDR is not available, and you have to travel to OR or WA for treatment. EMDR extended sessions can allow you to get a lot more work done in much shorter time.

No need to talk in great detail about the disturbing experience: One of the most remarkable qualities of EMDR therapy is that healing past issues does not require you to talk extensively about them.
